An easy run down the highway

Belmont is about 180 km from the yard, so delivery around the lake is straightforward. We deliver right around it: Belmont, Swansea, Warners Bay, Speers Point, Charlestown, Cardiff, Valentine, Toronto and Morisset.

Ground around the lake

Mine subsidence

Parts of Lake Macquarie sit over old coal workings. Check your address with Subsidence Advisory NSW before you plan the pool, because it can add an approval step. Finding out after you have paid a deposit is a bad week.

Low ground near the water

Blocks close to the lake can carry a high water table, and some low-lying areas have acid sulfate soils on the council maps. Both are normal to plan for. A fibreglass shell is buoyant, so it wants hydrostatic relief and it stays full once it is in.

Slopes above the lake

Up the ridges around Charlestown, Warners Bay and Toronto, plenty of blocks slope toward the water. That usually means some cut and fill, a retaining wall on the low side, and a careful look at where a truck and crane can stand.

Approval through Lake Macquarie City Council

Most backyard pools in New South Wales go through as a complying development with a private certifier, and the rest go to council as a development application. Either way the engineered shell drawing, the installation details and the Certificate of Compliance come in your kit, which is what your certifier asks for first.

Your pool barrier has to meet AS 1926.1 and the pool gets registered on the NSW Swimming Pool Register within 30 days.

Access and the crane

The shell comes in on a truck and is craned into the hole. What matters is the gap it has to pass through, what is overhead, and where a truck and a crane can stand. Measure your side access at its tightest point, 900 mm is the usual pinch, and look up for powerlines. Our delivery and crane access guide covers what actually matters. The crane is not in the kit price. It is booked and paid for separately by you or your builder, and its cost depends on reach and how long it has to sit there.

Most people install the kit with their own builder or local trades. It is the cheapest honest way to a quality pool, and we are on the phone the whole way. More on the supply only page.
