The Central Coast sits between the factory and Sydney, which makes it one of the cheapest places we deliver. We have finished work here, so this is not a postcode we are quoting off a map.

Delivery to the Central Coast

Freight is worked out from the factory to your site, so the same shell lands here for a little less than it does in Sydney.

Coastal sand, and the water table

Most of the Central Coast strip is sand rather than sandstone. That is good news: excavation is faster and considerably cheaper than a Sydney rock dig.

Two things change though. Sand will not hold a vertical face, so the hole is dug wider and there is more spoil to cart away. And close to the lagoons and the beach, at Wamberal, Terrigal, Umina and around Tuggerah Lake, you can strike the water table before you reach depth, which means dewatering.

Neither is a problem, but both belong in the quote rather than turning up on the day. Ask neighbours what they struck. A fibreglass shell suits these conditions well because it goes in and gets backfilled the same day instead of curing in a wet hole.

Central Coast block types

The beach suburbs

Terrigal, Avoca, MacMasters Beach, Copacabana. Sand, often a steep pitch up off the road, and side access that runs out fast between houses. These usually go over the house on a crane, and the narrower shells matter: the Nova, Oasis and Entertainer ranges are 3.0 to 3.5 m wide, which is what gets a pool into a yard a wider shell cannot reach.

The lakes and peninsula

Umina, Ettalong, Woy Woy, Budgewoi. Flatter, sandier, and the water table is the main consideration rather than access.

Inland and the newer estates

Kariong, Warnervale, Hamlyn Terrace. Flat, good side access, clay rather than sand. The easiest and cheapest install on the Coast, and where the bigger shapes make sense.

Crane access

A seven metre shell is about 400 kg, so reach decides the cost, not weight.

• Side access over about 900 mm clear and a machine can usually walk it down. Cheapest by a distance.
• Under that and it goes over the house. Budget $1,800 to $3,200 for the crane day plus float.
• A steep pitch up from the street, common through Terrigal and Avoca, means more reach and a longer setup.
• Powerlines. Ausgrid clearance rules can turn a simple lift into a traffic management job.

NSW compliance

Every shell comes engineered and certified for NSW, with the structural engineering and Certificate of Compliance in the pack. You or your builder handle approval (a CDC through a private certifier, or a DA through Central Coast Council), a compliant barrier, registration on the NSW Swimming Pool Register within 30 days, and the install.

Worth knowing: parts of the coastal strip sit in coastal hazard or foreshore zones, and a few areas are flood-affected. Either can turn a CDC into a full DA. Your certifier will tell you quickly which path you are on.

Heating

Effectively the same as Sydney. Unheated, roughly December to March. An inverter heat pump and a blanket take that to about eight months, and our Comfort package includes both. On a holiday or rental property that is the difference between a four month asset and an eight month one.

A finished job typically lands between $55,000 and $85,000 all in, with simple access and modest surrounds at the lower end. Sand digs cheaper than Sydney rock, so a straightforward Coast block often sits at the friendlier end of that range.

Have you actually built on the Central Coast?

Will the water table stop me putting a pool in?

Almost never. It changes the excavation method and can add dewatering, which is a cost rather than a blocker. Better to know before the quote.

Is it cheaper than Sydney?

Slightly, on freight, because you are closer to Taree. Excavation is often cheaper too, because sand digs faster than sandstone.

Can my own builder install it?

Yes. We supply the shell, equipment and engineering, your builder does the rest.
