Fibreglass pools in Newcastle & the Hunter

Newcastle is one of the closest major markets to the factory, which makes it one of the cheapest places in the country for us to deliver a pool. Australian-made shells, NSW engineering and compliance in the pack, and you choose whether you install it, we arrange it, or your own builder does.

The factory is 170 km up the highway. That is closer to Newcastle than Sydney is, and it shows up directly in what you pay.

Newcastle is a short run from the factory

Freight is worked out on your actual address and built into the price we quote, never added at the end. Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Cessnock and Port Stephens all sit in the same band. It is a genuine local advantage and worth knowing before you pay a showroom price for the same pool. Tell us your suburb and we will give you the delivered number.

Mine subsidence, and why it matters here

This is the Hunter-specific one and it catches people out. Large parts of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Cessnock sit in declared Mine Subsidence Districts. If your property is in one, Subsidence Advisory NSW has to approve the pool before you build, on top of your normal council or certifier approval.

It is usually straightforward and check their current fees and timeframes when you apply, but it is a separate approval with its own timeline, and finding out about it after you have paid a deposit is a bad week. Check your address on the Subsidence Advisory NSW property search before you commit to anything.

The good news is a fibreglass shell is generally viewed more favourably than concrete on subsidence land, because it is a single flexible engineered piece rather than a rigid structure poured in the ground.

Hunter block types

The coastal strip

Merewether, Bar Beach, Redhead, Caves Beach. Sand rather than rock, which makes excavation quick and cheap. The catch is that sand will not hold a vertical face, so the hole is dug wider and there is more spoil to cart away. Near the water you can also strike the water table before you reach depth.

Lake Macquarie

Warners Bay, Belmont, Speers Point. Often sloping down toward the water with tight side access between houses. This is crane territory more often than not, and the narrower shells matter: the Nova, Oasis and Entertainer ranges are 3.0 to 3.5 m wide, which is what gets a pool into a yard a wider shell cannot reach.

Maitland and the valley

Flat, generous blocks, proper side access and clay ground. The easiest and cheapest install in the region, and where the bigger shapes make sense because there is room for them.

Crane access

A seven metre shell is about 400 kg, so reach decides the cost, not weight.

• Side access over about 900 mm clear and a machine can usually walk it down. Cheapest by a distance.
• Under that and it goes over the house. Budget $1,800 to $3,200 for the crane day plus float.
• Powerlines over the street. Ausgrid clearance rules can turn a simple lift into a traffic management job.

NSW compliance

Every shell comes engineered and certified for NSW, with the structural engineering and Certificate of Compliance in the pack. You or your builder handle approval (a CDC through a private certifier, or a DA through council), the barrier, registration on the NSW Swimming Pool Register within 30 days, and the install itself. In the Hunter, add the Subsidence Advisory NSW approval where it applies.

Heating

Newcastle runs a little warmer than Sydney but not enough to change the answer. Unheated, you get roughly December to March. An inverter heat pump and a blanket take that to about eight months, and our Comfort package includes both. It is the upgrade people most often skip and then wish they had not.

A finished job typically lands between $55,000 and $85,000 all in. Simple access and modest surrounds sit at the lower end; difficult access or serious landscaping push higher. Newcastle’s freight advantage comes off the top of that.

Common questions

Is Newcastle really cheaper than Sydney?

On freight, yes, because you are closer to Taree than Sydney is. The rest of the job is priced the same way.

How do I know if I am in a mine subsidence district?

Search your address on the Subsidence Advisory NSW site. If you are, you need their approval as well as council or a certifier. It is free to apply.

Will sand cause a problem?

Not usually, and it digs faster than rock. It just needs a wider excavation and more spoil removal, which we allow for.

Can my own builder install it?

Yes. We supply the shell, equipment and engineering, and your builder does the rest.
